“We’re not normal!”- We love this statement that one of our members used whilst working out!

That’s right we are not like other fitness centres or gyms in Carlisle, our centre is for those who would not go to a normal gym! If you wouldn’t go to a gym because:

  • ‘Normal gyms’ are intimidating,

  • I haven’t exercised for ages

  • I’m recovering from a medical condition and need extra support

  • I don’t want to work out next to people who look very, very fit

  • I don’t know how to use the equipment or where to start…

Then iCan is for you! We have classes suitable for all ages, genders and health conditions including women only sessions, male only sessions and mixed sessions. 

Our main circuit features unique hydraulic resistance training machines, with a changing activity every week to keep your workout fresh and fun! Weekly workout themes are picked by members choice. Activities could include, Dance, Weights, Yoga, Rebounding, Strength and Cardio exercises all performed in between your circuit of machines.

The best bit? Your workout only takes 30 minutes!

If the main circuit isn’t your thing we host a range of mixed gender classes including chair based yoga, chair based exercise, Zumba, Strength training, Powerpump and Bellicon rehabilitation rebounding. 

You can also access the gym facilities on our own via our “Own access” sessions* This is for those who are confident and capable to work out alone.

INSTRUCTOR LED SESSIONS

These are led by our qualified, friendly instructors. The perfect workout if you are unsure what to do, lack of motivation or just want to exercise with others.

We have sessions exclusively for women only or for men only. So you are sure to fit in with the community thats right for you. 

Our instructors will keep you safe, encourage you to work towards your goal and keep you smiling all the way through your workout.

OWN ACCESS – YOUR OWN PRIVATE GYM

These are sessions where you let yourself into the gym on your own. A staff member may not be present during these sessions. This is perfect if you want privacy to do your own thing or with your friends. 

We have sessions exclusive for female only and males only to make the experience comfortable for you. 

Open between 6am-8am and 1:30pm-7pm you can choose when and for how long you want to stay for.

OPEN TO ALL – ZUMBA

Dance the night away with our Zumba classes.

This class is open to all and beginnings are more than welcome. We feature Zumba style dance moves to get a sweat on and work on coordination skills.

Teacher Liliana is fabulous at allowing you to bring out your inner dance diva in a safe space thats welcoming and fun.

OPEN TO ALL – CHAIR BASED YOGA AND RELAXATION

 

A relaxed class for those who prefer sitting on a chair. This class is best suited to the less mobile or those with rehabilitation needs. You will benefit from improved mobility, core strength, leg and arm workout and a peaceful 30 minute relaxation session to calm your body and mind.

OPEN TO ALL – STRENGTH WORKOUT

Suitable for beginners but those who can get to the floor with ease and want to push themselves a little harder.

Except exercises to work your core, cardio ability and strength moves. You will work with Nic and other members to swap between 6-8 moves per class in 40 second intervals with a rest break inbetween.

OPEN TO ALL – ACTIVE BREW CREW (ABC)

 

A chair based exercise class where you will use your whole body including working on mobility, strength, finger, hand and wrist strength and more. This welcoming class offers a workout for those who need a gentle exercise programme. We end each session with a cuppa and chat and form solid friendships with our Active Brew Crew.

BODY COMPOSITION – WEIGH AND MEASURING

 

Every month using our specialist equipment, our coaches can measure your weight, body fat %, BMI, muscle mass, visceral fat level, metabolic age and water level as well as measuring your body inches. We encourage you start focussing on your health as well as your weight. This is a vital step to understanding your body, how it works and what it needs. The 1:1 chat with your coach will help you to set next months goals, understand your results and plan for your health and fitness journey.

Beginners Bellicon for rehabilitation

Join our Beginner Bellicon using specialised Bellicon trampolines for rehabilitation. Experience a unique approach to exercise as our instructors guide you through gentle, effective exercises designed to improve balance and stability while promoting overall well-being. Discover the benefits of low-impact bouncing tailored for rehabilitation in a supportive environment.  

PROFESSIONAL REFERRAL PATHWAY

 

The referred person will be offered a FREE 3 DAY PASS and then a discounted membership with the aim of achieving physical and mental fitness at an affordable price.

A registered care worker or support worker can attend sessions with the individual if required or a staff member can meet the individual at the door or car park if that’s helpful.

Every Thursday join us for a gentle stroll around Bitts Park with Friends.

Leaving from the WeCan Wellbeing Centre at 9:30am. Then back to the Centre for a cuppa and chat.

What’s stopping you?

I WON'T BE FIT ENOUGH!

Don’t worry, we work with you as an individual, you won’t be judged on others abilities. We will work out together what you feel you can do and help you get to the next step.

Many of our members have never exercised before, or haven’t worked out for a long time.  We work with all abilities and all ages so you are bound to find someone to buddy with who is just like you.

We have members from 18-118, so please don’t worry.  

Some are exercising for health or rehabilitation. Others are exercising for weight loss, weight gain or another personal goal. 

We can guarantee our workouts are tailored to suit all ages; we can even guide you to attend workouts with people just like you. 

Yes, we work with all abilities, some are physically fit and others have a variety of illnesses, disabilities or disorders. 

We would advise you to come to a workout with an instructor so they can guide you to attend the activities that are suitable for you.

Most of our workouts will only take 30 minutes, but if that’s too long you could choose to access our iCan at home platform anytime. Or pop in and stay for as long as you like, remember 10 minutes is better than nothing! 

Please don’t worry, you can choose to pay monthly for less than £1 per day, or just book the workouts that you fancy pay as you go. 

In some cases, we can offer subsidised memberships thanks to funded programmes and our Pay it forward memberships so please get in touch to find out how you might be able to access one of those.

New for 2023

In 2022 we hosted Cumbria’s first bellicon research study with the University of Cumbria, Huddersfield, Lancaster and in partnership with the NHS. A pioneering piece of clinical research designed to improve rehabilitation and community exercise. The results proved that participants improved their mobility and have more control over their movements. 

The research study was exclusively for 60 and 70 year olds who are not currently exercising and wanted to improve their mobility, balance and exercise levels on safe equipment used in physio therapy.

Now in 2023, we are launching new rehabilitation bounce classes for all ages, designed to help those who need to work on balance and core strength. For more information contact us on admin@icanwellbeing.co.uk
