WeCan is a Wellbeing Centre based in Carlisle, next door to the iCan fitness centre.  WeCan focuses on emotional & social wellbeing.

Our centre is accessible for everybody and inclusive to all. We have a full timetable of groups & activities throughout the week that would suit a variety of people! Ladies & Gents of all ages!

WeCan is a safe and supportive environment in which people are encouraged to aspire to be the happiest & healthiest version of themselves. We lead from lived experience & recognise that there are many factors that contribute to our overall health & wellbeing.

Our vision is to empower each member of our WeCan community to create and achieve their own goals and help them on their journey towards improved wellbeing.

We do this by encouraging participation in Peer Support Groups & activities which aim to support an increase in emotional wellbeing & decreased social isolation.   The power of our community is within the group participation and both the giving & receiving of support to each other.

We encourage open & honest conversations which enable us to share our own experiences with each other in a safe and supportive environment. All members of staff are lived experience mentors and fully participate in groups alongside our community.

Our lived experience mentor Annie would love you to join her in some short 5 minute meditations. Just click the pictures below to listen and enjoy.

We have a Podcast

You can listen to a variety of conversations via our podcast which features local lived experience experts and people just like you sharing real life stories about wellbeing.

New for 2023

CRAFTS WITH LESLEY

A group for those who love to try new crafts. No experience necessary to join these sessions which happen at the end of every month.

The sessions are designed to be fun, relaxing and informative so you can take away your new skills and pretty craft at the end of the session.

Lesley is a volunteer with iCan and donates her tutorial time for free, She loves how it makes her feel and enjoys the smiles she sees when people learn a new crafting skill.

LIVING WITH & BEYOND CANCER

We provide ongoing support to those who are affected by Cancer. Support includes a telephone befriending service, coffee mornings, information advice & guidance as well as arranged activities and group walks.

Members can also then be part of leading the growth of this group and bring ideas of additional health and wellbeing support that we can incorporate for them and their peers.

MENOPAUSE WORKSHOPS

Brand new to WeCan for 2023 we have collaborated with Dandelion coaching to bring a programme of information, advice and guidance to our community surrounding the effects of Perimenopause and Menopause.

These workshops are linked to the Living with and beyond cancer programme and perfect for those experiencing menopause symptoms due to cancer treatment.

WECAN WALKING GROUP

Our longstanding popular weekly walking group has now been secured as a permanent fixture on our timetable for 2023 thanks to support from The NHS Green Social Prescribing Fund.

This group is a weekly peer support group open members from across our community and a great group for new people to come to to try out WeCan and meet new people. It increases emotional and social wellbeing whilst also making use of our local out door beauty spots for gentle exercise & fresh air.

LIVE WELL AWARDS / 18-24 YEAR OLDS

A 6 week wellbeing programme for young adults who want to work towards improving their lifestyle.

Each group is limited to 6 participants per session for the purpose of forming a comfortable peer support group for those that may feel anxious in large groups.

The course includes: 4 x Wellbeing Sessions in our Wellbeing Centre in Carlisle and 2 x Outdoor Activity Trips.

Each participant will also receive a weekly 1:1 support session from their mentor separate to the weekly group session.
